Gravel Driveways Coventry
Gravel driveways laid on a proper base, with stabiliser grids to stop ruts and gravel spreading. Naturally permeable.
We are DNA Driveways Coventry, the driveway and paving side of DNA Landscapes. Gravel is one of the most affordable ways to turn a front garden into parking. Laid properly, it stays put, drains freely and looks smart for years.

Why gravel
An affordable, permeable drive
Gravel is one of the lowest-cost ways to stop mowing a front lawn and gain off-road parking. It suits a large frontage like the one above, where paving the whole area would get expensive.
Because water drains straight through the stones, a gravel drive counts as permeable. It needs no planning permission however large the front garden, and usually little extra drainage.
Best practice
Why we recommend gravel grids
Loose gravel on its own tends to rut where the wheels run, scatter onto paths and lawns, and sink into soft ground. That’s why we strongly recommend gravel stabiliser grids: honeycomb panels laid over the sub-base and filled with gravel.
No ruts or potholes
The cells lock the gravel in place, so wheels can’t push it aside.
Gravel stays put
Far less spills onto paths, the pavement and the lawn, even on a slope.
Fewer weeds
A firm, stable surface gives weeds less chance to establish.
Fully permeable
Rain still drains straight through to the ground below.
How we lay it
What goes into a gravel drive
- Dig out Turf and topsoil come off down to firm ground.
- Sub-base Compacted crushed stone to carry the weight of cars.
- Edging A firm edge of blocks, setts or kerb to hold the gravel in.
- Grids Stabiliser panels laid over the sub-base.
- Gravel The grids are filled and topped with your chosen gravel.
Mix and match
Gravel with block paving or stone
Gravel works well alongside other surfaces. A block paved or sett border, a paved strip where the car turns, or Indian stone paths through gravel beds all give a more finished look, while gravel fills the larger areas and keeps the cost down.
Pricing
What a gravel driveway costs
Gravel drives are priced at survey. The area, how much needs digging out, the edging you choose, whether grids are used and the gravel itself all affect the price. Gravel is usually among the most affordable surfaces we lay.
Aftercare
Looking after a gravel drive
A gravel drive needs very little. Rake it level now and then, clear leaves before they rot down into the stones, and top it up with a little fresh gravel every few years. With grids underneath, raking is rarely needed at all.
Thinking about gravel? Tell us the size of the area and how you’ll use it, and we’ll recommend the right build.
Questions
Gravel driveway questions
How much does a gravel driveway cost?
Gravel drives are priced at survey. The area, the dig-out, edging, grids and the gravel itself all affect the cost, and gravel is usually among the most affordable surfaces we lay.
Do gravel driveways need planning permission?
No. Gravel is permeable, so it can be laid across a front garden of any size without planning permission.
What are gravel grids?
Honeycomb panels laid over the sub-base and filled with gravel. They stop rutting and gravel spreading, and the drive stays fully permeable.
Does gravel spread onto the pavement?
Loose gravel can. A firm edge and stabiliser grids keep it in place far better, which is why we recommend them.
Can gravel be combined with paving?
Yes. Block paving or sett borders, paved strips and stone paths through gravel give a finished look while keeping the cost down.
How do I maintain a gravel drive?
Rake it occasionally, clear fallen leaves, and top up with fresh gravel every few years. With grids, it needs even less.
