Resin bound driveways
A smooth, seamless finish in a wide choice of aggregate colours. Laid on a porous base, water drains straight through it.

Lifespans are typical figures for a drive laid on a proper base and looked after. The real figure depends on the ground, the traffic it takes and how it is maintained. For a typical 50m² drive, those rates range from about £6,000 for plain concrete to about £15,000 for resin bound, plus any extra groundwork, drainage or dropped kerb.
How it works
How a driveway job runs
- Survey We measure up, check for underground services, and look at the soil, the levels and where the water will go.
- Dig out The old surface comes up and we excavate to the depth the new drive needs.
- Sub-base Crushed stone is laid and compacted in layers to carry the weight of vehicles.
- Edging Fixed edging goes in to hold the surface in place along every side.
- Surface and finish The surface is laid, then jointed, sealed and cleaned down as it needs.
Most driveways take one to two weeks from start to finish, weather permitting. The groundwork is the part you never see once the job is done, and it is the part that decides whether the drive still looks right in ten years.

Drainage, planning and dropped kerbs
Run-off from front gardens
If you pave over 5m² of a front garden and the water flows into the road, you need planning permission. Choose a surface that lets water through, or have it fall to a lawn, border or soakaway, and you don’t. We include the drainage in our price.
Dropped kerbs in Coventry
Apply to Coventry City Council. A standard crossing is 2.7 metres wide, and planning permission is always needed for access onto a classified road.
Dropped kerbs in Warwickshire
Outside the city, in places like Kenilworth, Rugby and Binley Woods, the highway authority is Warwickshire County Council, and the kerb is lowered by an accredited contractor once it gives permission.

Driveway questions we are often asked
Which driveway surface is best?
There isn't one answer. Resin bound gives the smoothest, lowest-maintenance finish but costs most. Block paving is the most flexible and easiest to repair. Tarmac and plain concrete are the most affordable. We look at your budget, what you park on the drive and how it drains before recommending one.
What is the cheapest new driveway?
Of our guide rates, plain concrete is lowest at £120 per m², followed by block paving and new tarmac at £180. If an existing tarmac drive has a sound base, resurfacing it from £120 per m² is often the best value of all.
Is resin bound the same as resin bonded?
No. Resin bound mixes the stones into the resin before it is trowelled flat, which gives a smooth, permeable surface. Resin bonded scatters loose stone onto a coat of resin, so it is not permeable and the loose stones can come away. We lay resin bound.
Do new driveways have to be permeable?
Not always. Planning permission is only needed if more than 5m² of front garden is paved with a surface that sheds water into the road. A surface that lets water through, or a solid one that drains into a border or soakaway, keeps you clear of that rule.
How long does a new driveway take?
Most driveways take one to two weeks from digging out to finishing, depending on the size, the surface and the weather.

Yes. In Coventry you apply to Coventry City Council, and planning permission is always needed for access onto a classified road. In the Warwickshire towns we cover, such as Kenilworth, Rugby and Binley Woods, you apply to Warwickshire County Council.
